Let there be cows in front of me, Behind me and all around me. I live with the cows.

That person who is always engrossed in Go-seva with no duplicity becomes happy from others’ happiness and becomes distressed from others’ distress. When this conduct is shown by humans towards their ishtadeva and His creation, then that is called as seva of God or pure spirituality. Therefore we see that, the mental state which is required for spiritual advancement is seen to rise on its own in the nonduplicitous performers of Go-seva. Even if one is not able to perform Go-seva directly by oneself, one can still get the compassion of the Lord by extending one’s hands in a mood of seva while taking part in Go-seva indirectly. Even in such people, the Lord makes the two qualities of being niraparadhi and upakari arise.

In Vedic traditions, the Cow was revered as Divine Mother, the Gomata or Gaumata, and one which bestows health, knowledge, and prosperity. In Sanskrit, the word “Go” also means “Light”. But as time passed much of this wisdom was lost. In modern times, Gaumata has become a victim of human greed. The place of Gaumata in Bharatiya society has degenerated to being a mere component of animal husbandry. In the worst cases, and which are not uncommon, the “Cow” has become an “asset” in accounting terminology, a factor of production for “industry”. Science has devised novel techniques to increase milk production, often at the cost of inflicting inhuman suffering on Gaumata and Her family, while humanity enjoys the fruits that She continues to grant in spite of our transgressions. However, Gaumata’s fall from her exalted position in Bharatiya society has had catastrophic consequences for Bharat and the world, giving rise to ecological imbalances and a multitude of diseases to which modern science has no answers. Bharat has lost much of the beauty, scholarship and abundance that She enjoyed in the Vedic period.

The Master saw this downfall and advised his disciples that solution to the world’s problems as we see it is both external (material) and internal (spiritual). He believe it is now crucial to raise the “Cow” to her original exalted position of “Gaumata”. With His blessings, Giribala Vanmala Committee is working with the goal of reviving Bharat’s ancient Vedic “Go Sanskriti”, and introduce time tested Vedic techniques in all aspects of Gaushala.

What We Plan

Dheer Sameer Ashram houses a small Gaushala with 1 cow and 2 calves at present with plans to expand/build a new Gaushala with minimum 10 cows. The proceeds from the sale of milk will go towards making the Ashram self-sustainable. The new Gaushala will be built keeping in mind the comfort of mother cow using the best practices available.

Practices to be followed:

  • Dohan: We plan to adhere to “dohan”, the practice of ancient India, wherein the calf is free to feed to his or her satisfaction from two anchals, and the remaining two are used to obtain milk for humans.

  • Organic feeding - We will offer only organic feed to Gaumata as far as possible, based on research into the nutritional value and Her own tastes and preferences.

  • Harnessing Ayurveda  - Various Ayurvedic herbs of rich medicinal value will be added to Gaumata’s feed based on weather and season to enhance Her health and vitality.

  • Vedic rituals and music – The Gaushala will be housed in Dheer Sameer Ashram where akhand Naam is going on from ages. Devotional music and Sanskrit chants will also be played in the background every day, which helps to keep the Gaumatas happy and healthy.
